Teens join gangs as a way to escape from the real world. Instead of focusing on school or working they decide to join a gang where they can do whatever they want and don't care who it affects. What causes teens to join gangs is either for trying to fit in and make new ''friends'' or for the excitement of the gang without realizing what actually happens in the gang. They probably don't even worry about the fact that there are other gangs that will hurt them or the ones they love. I think gangs are a big issue in society because gangs are often glorified by people that are in gangs or the media such as music and TV shows. It also has to do with the excitement about being in a gang because teens think that they can join gangs and just hang around and cause trouble. Teens are most likely pressured to join a gang by their friends or their relatives. Since teens see that their friends and family are in gangs they want to be in one too. People do affect other people by joining gangs because they would probably tell that person that being in the gang is fun but in reality its very risky and could cost them their life.
- According to http://www.gangfree.org/gangs_why.html, they say that people join gangs because they need a sense of ''family'', to appear cool, excitement, desire for protection, need of money, and peer pressure
